FaceBook - Blessing or Curse?
FaceBook can be a blessing and a curse.
I believe that it was Thomas Aquinas who
said, "Nothing is intrinsically good or evil, but its manner of usage may make it so.”
FaceBook
can be a wonderful place to network with others of like minds and similar
interests; to reconnect with old acquaintances; to make new friends; to share
and to learn.
FaceBook
can also be a treacherous place of disgusting behavior; of vulgarity,
profanity, indecency, immorality, irreverence and deceit. Many false personalities claiming to be
someone or something that they are not have infiltrated countless FaceBook
walls and pages.
It
has never been more important than now that we know who it is that we are befriending
on our FaceBook walls or in our FaceBook groups. Every pretty face may not be a pretty person
and everything that looks like a saint ain’t.
Be
careful and ask questions of those whom you do not know who are requesting to friend
you on FaceBook. Get Referrals from
mutual friends. Make sure that names fit
faces. If a prospective FaceBook friend
refuses to display his or her image to you, you may want to consider denying
them access to your wall. If they can
see you why can’t you see them?
You
owe it to yourself to be safe online.
You owe it to your FaceBook friends, your subscribers and your family to
protect your shared information from interlopers, gossips and clandestine individuals.
We
all know that it is impossible to absolutely be secure on a social network.
However, that is no excuse to be careless.
Let
us help keep one another safe.
~Bishop~
